I very nearly missed this shot. I got up bleary eyed at 5.30am to find a cloud completely obscuring the mountain I had intended to photograph. Quick thinking and a sweaty run up a nearly hill meant I just got here in time to get a few shots before the gathering cloud set in for the rest of the day…

It was a treat to find by accident the spookily deep gullies, abandoned tunnels and slate ruins of the once prestigious Clogau gold mine. This dramatic location with its hilltop ruins and mountain views begs a visit in early morning light…

It was rather wonderful to visit this deserted slate mill, far up a track in a rarely visited area of Wales. I really wanted to find this mill so I could go back in better light. I think this shot is quite nice though, the light under the threatening dark clouds.

Last light over Llyn Dinas, near Bedgellert and the start of three days visiting some of the most exciting landscape photography locations in Snowdonia. I didn’t even make the first one, this image was plan-B as the sunset faster than I could get up my hill!

It was a wonderful surprise to discover a tiny fishing community still in existence in Holywell, North Wales. I imagined these two boats to be taking a long, peaceful retirement from duty after a hard working life.
